Members of Parliament have raised security concerns over the construction of the Nairobi Expressway over Parliament buildings.

According to the MPs, the overpass exposes Parliament to external threats.

They now want to know if security was considered when the expressway idea was mooted given that parliament is a high-security instalment.

The matter was brought before the House Wednesday by Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose during the question and statements session.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi tasked the National Administration and Security Committee and that of Transport to seek answers from relevant offices and report back within 21 days terming the matter a weighty issue.

The highway is 27km beginning from Mlolongo through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Nairobi’s CBD to Westland’s area on Waiyaki Way.
