Chief executive of Cooperative Bank of Kenya Mr. Gideon Muriuki has been awarded an Honorary doctorate of human letters for his contribution on banking sector and the cooperative movement. The award was given last Friday by the Cooperative University of Kenya.
“Here, then, is a transformational leader who turned around the Cooperative Bank, which is predominantly owned by the cooperative movement, and espouses the aspirations of vibrant sustainable cooperatives in Kenya”, said the chancellor.
This is the second Honorary doctorate for Mr. Muriuki who in 2011 was also given doctor of philosophy.
Mr. Gideon Muriuki, last year was also named the CEO of the year in 2021 African Banking Award. He has moved cooperative bank from a KSh. 2.1 billion loss -making from 2001 to become the third largest leader in Kenya.
