NAIROBI — Harmonising air and road transport systems across East Africa could play a critical role in boosting domestic and regional tourism, according to Mr. Tim Mdinka, Managing Director of Land Africa Safaris.
Speaking during on going EastAfrica CEOs and Investment Forum 2026 breakout session on Transport and Trade Logistics, Mr. Mdinka highlighted the strong link between transport, logistics and the growth of the tourism sector.
He noted that efficient and affordable transport connectivity is essential for enabling tourists to move easily between destinations across the region. Gaps and inconsistencies in transport systems, he said, can increase the cost and complexity of travel, limiting the movement of tourists within East Africa.
Mr. Mdinka called for greater harmonisation of both air and road transport across the region to improve connectivity and make travel more seamless.
He said stronger integration of transport networks would not only facilitate international tourism but also encourage more East Africans to explore destinations within the region.
Improved road and air connectivity could therefore help unlock the potential of domestic tourism by making tourism destinations more accessible to residents of East African countries.
The call comes as stakeholders continue to examine ways of strengthening regional integration and removing barriers that affect trade, travel and tourism across East Africa.
Mr. Mdinka’s remarks underscored the importance of treating transport and logistics as key components of tourism development, rather than as separate sectors.
