Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavai has expressed his confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta will respect the Constitution and leave the office come 2022 when his second term comes to an end.

Mudavadi criticised some of the opinions from a section of leaders who have been claiming that the president is too young to go home.

“I have listened to Kenyatta several times and he has never said that he wants to extend his term of office,” Mudavadi said.

Speaking at Nyandarua County Government Headquarters on Saturday during his two-day, Mudavadi said that the country is being guided by the Constitution.

“The next general elections will be held on August 2022, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the timetable,” he said.

He observed that the ten years under Uhuru have been peaceful, and maintained the need for a continuation of harmony.

At the same time, Mudavadi questioned the bottom-up leadership system being hyped by some political outfits, terming it as risky, translating to emptying everything and leaving the public with nothing.

He warned the electorate against buying into semantic being sold by politicians who are only good at speeches and empty promises.

“Don’t be cheated by semantics and empty promises, bottoms up means gobbling up everything,” he said.

The ANC leader was accompanied by Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia and more than ten MPs from different parts of the country who urged the constituents to elect leaders based on their track records and policies and not empty rhetoric.

He assured the residents that his party would guarantee peace and economic growth once elected to power.

Also, Mudavadi promised to support devolution as it had brought resources and development to the grassroots.

Mudavadi has been touring different parts of the county recently popularising his party and selling his economic blueprint.

He previously visited Nakuru, and Nyeri counties.
