NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 16 – Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Leader Raila Odinga will today chair the coalition’s parliamentary group meeting in Stoni Athi, Machakos County.
Odinga will be accompanied by Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka.
The meeting is slated to bring together leaders from the affiliate parties which include Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wiper Party, DAP-K and KANU.
Some of the key issues the Azimio constituent parties are set to deliberate include the house leadership and how the coalition will function and proceed once it officially convenes.
Key positions that leaders within the coalition are jostling for include the majority leader and the majority whip in both the National Assembly and the Senate.
Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma who is among the leaders who will attend the meeting told Capital FM News that the meet up is pivotal to give the coalition bearing in the legislative house as they take up their role in the opposition.
“We are going to deliberate how we will function once Parliament convenes and actually the issue of sharing positions in terms of the house leadership are the last issues we will focus on. What is our main agenda is how we will function in our watchdog role,” said Kaluma.
The question on who between the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya and their rival in Kenya Kwanza wields the majority in the house is still in question though the coalition agreement deposited the Registrar of Political Parties show Azimio La Umoja One Kenya is ahead.
“The issue of majority or minority in the house is not in question. We are the majority, and the constitution is very clear on this, this is not debatable,” said the Homabay Town MP.
