Embattled Secretary General of the independence party- KANU, Nick Salat has resigned with immediate effect.
Salat’s resignation comes a week after he was expelled from his position by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) over alleged misconduct and violation of the party constitution, told the President he had made a decision to return to his fold.
“It is in my position that my purported dismissal from the position of Secretary General as communicated through the press was unlawful and against the rules of natural justice. However, and pursuant to section 14 of the Political Parties Act, I hereby with heavy heart but with a clear conscience, tender my resignation from the KANU party effective the date specified hereunder,” Salat said in a statement.
“Take notice, therefore, that I, Nicholas Salat, have resigned from the Kanu party and therefore disassociate myself with the party except in situations where the law permits after this notice,” he added.
Last month, Nick Salat announced that he will henceforth rally behind President William Ruto.
Speaking at an interdenominational prayer service in Bomet County, he disclosed that he has cut off ties with the independence party and its leader Gideon Moi.
“I am back. I have suffered for a long time. The preacher delivered a summon about someone who went away and got lost, but later returned home. That is me. But I have returned,” he said when he was given an opportunity to address the gathering.
