Tusker FC versus Gor Mahia failed to produce the spark it had been billed to as the top-of-the-table clash ended in a barren draw at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
The result helped Tusker preserved their one-point lead at the top of the FKF Premier League standings with three games left before the end of the season.
The champions have managed 65 points from 31 games played this season with Gor one point adrift in second place while Nzoia Sugar sit third with 60 points.
Elsewhere in Mombasa, Wazito FC’s relegation fears mounted following their 1-0 defeat against Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Grounds.
Bandari got their winning strike in the first half through Hassan Abdallah with the Dockers racking up their third win in their last five. They are unbeaten during that run.
Abdallah found the back of the net after exchanging quick passes with Umaru Kasumba and William Wadri outside Wazito 18 yard box before unleashing a powerful shot that went past goalkeeper Tom Muthomi.
A minute later, Wazito fc almost got a quick response after poor backpass by Brian Odera to his keeper Joseph Ochuka but it was cut short by Wazito striker Collins Odhiambo who took a overhead kick but was cleared offline by captain Juma.
A the half hour mark, Bandari continued to pile pressure on Wazito but Dagla Mokaya’s shot was saved by Muthomi.
Both teams made double changes at the start of the second half as the managers sought to inject fresh energy into their squads early on.
In 57th minute, Hassan almost doubled the home team lead but his header went wide off the post.
Bandari continued to dominate and in the 66th minute of the game, Umar Kasumba header was deflected wide off the side post after a well delivered cross by William Wadri.
Five minutes to top of the game, Wazito goalkeeper Tom Muthomi made heroic double saves, first denying Hassan Abdallah from a 20 yard freekick then a follow up by striker Umar Kasumba before defender Kelvin Wesonga clearing the ball safe.
In the last kick of the game James Kinyanjui made a fine run before unleashing a dangerous ball into the danger zone but lacked anyone to tap into an empty net.
