The annual Ndakaini Half Marathon is set to make a return on September 16 2023, the first time in three years after a Covid-19 ravaged calendar.
This will be the 17th edition of the event and will be held at its annual course, in Murang’a County.
At a press briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday, Ndakaini Environmental Conservation Association (NDEKA) Sports Chairman James Mukuna said this year’s edition is targeting 3,000 athletes and 50 corporates.
Mukuna has also expressed his delight at the return of the event, which has been central in raising funds for conversation of environment around Ndakaini Dam.
“NDEKA is very excited to bring back this event after three years. The steady growth of this event has been central in raising funds for conversation of environment around Ndakaini Dam,” he said.
Athletics Kenya Second Vice Chairman Francis Kamau lauded NDEKA for their commitment to revive the event which he termed as a talent hub for Kenya’s sportsmen and women.
“We join hands to revamp this initiative for the benefit of our athletes and athletics enthusiasts from different parts of our country,” he said.
The marathon will feature races across 2 km, 10km and 5km categories and will be open to both elite, amateur and recreational runners.
Registration for the race is open for the participants on the website www.ndakaini.co.ke with entry fees for each race set at 1500 per person.
