Acting Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu Mwenda will finally be sworn in as the City county chief on Tuesday.
After months of waiting, Kananu will take an oath to serve as the third governor of Nairobi, after the Judiciary cleared all the hurdles that had stopped her from assuming the office left vacant by Mike Mbuvi Sonko after impeachment.
In a Gazette notice, the assumption of office committee on Monday confirmed that Kananu, who is the deputy governor and acting Governor of Nairobi will assume all the powers of the office of a county chief on Tuesday.
“Pursuant to sections 14 and 16 of the assumption of the office of governor act 2019 and in accordance with the provisions of Article 74 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, it is notified for information of the general public that the swearing-in ceremony of Ms. Ann Kananu Mwenda as the Governor of Nairobi City County, shall take place on Tuesday 16th November 2021 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center COMESA Grounds, starting 10:00 am.” Read the notice by Committee Chairperson Jairus Musumba.
Preparations are currently in top gear to ensure the event is a success. By Monday evening, tents were being erected at the venue even as the list of those who will attend the ceremony remained a highly guarded secret.
